The Farm Dam Enhancement Project delivered by Landcare Tasmania "Train-the-Trainer" sessions - Selbourne

Landcare Tasmania, ANU Sustainable Farms and the Tas Farm Innovation Hub are hosting three Farm Dam Enhancement 'Train the Trainer' Days across the state (north-west, north and south) on 24 Feb Gunns Plains, 26 Feb Selbourne and 28 Feb Richmond.

These Train-the-Trainer sessions are designed for NRM, Land Management and Landcare professionals to develop the skills needed to support farmers in enhancing farm dams for both biodiversity and productivity.

What to Expect on Wednesday 26 Feb at Selbourne Hall 9.00am - 4.00pm

The ANU Sustainable Farms team will lead the day covering:

  • Understanding Ecological Literacy - Helping landholders understand and use scientific evidence to make informed farm management decisions while recognising the connection between human activities and ecosystem health
  • Science of Farm Dam Enhancement – Understanding the multiple benefits of enhanced farm dams, including improved water quality, carbon storage, and increased biodiversity.
  • Supporting Landholders – How to guide farmers through planning, implementing, and monitoring farm dam projects tailored to their landscape and needs.
  • Behaviour Change & Adoption – Insights into farmer decision-making and effective approaches to encourage sustainable dam management.
  • Delivering Effective Field Days – Best practices for running engaging and impactful extension activities, including a local farm visit to demonstrate key concepts in action.
  • What Can Be Done in Your Area - Landcare Tas projects and FDE opportunities.

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge, hands-on experience, and access to Sustainable Farms’ educational resources, leaving with the confidence to lead farm dam enhancement initiatives in their communities.

What to bring

Bring along a drink bottle, notebook, pen and some sturdy shoes for the site visits. Lunch and morning tea will be provided, please let us know any dietary requirements. This is a free event but registration is essential.

The Farm Dam Enhancement Project is being delivered by Landcare Tasmania with support from the TAS Farm Innovation Hub through funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.

Funding & AcknowledgmentS

This program received funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.

The Australian Government is contributing $12.4 million over 4 years through the Future Drought Fund under various grants. Hub partners and the University of Tasmania will provide co-contributions of an amount at least equal to the Australian Government funding over the same period.
